Cocky Rugby Lad

1914 Rugby outfits art nouveau for Redfern Tailor

Is that a fold in your shorts or … ?

Cocky Rubgy Baller

This may seem innocent enough, but you know it’s not.

This outrageous fashion statement of a lady and two rugby boys made wild girls swoon for more in the Art Nouveau period.

Of course, this image could be seen as an example of what sociologists call peacocking, or, the art of standing out in a crowd, often through the use of physical props, like a unique or special piece of clothing or an unusual accessory like a cane or jewelry.

The video on this page has the character Tom Haverford of the TV show Parks and Recreation, explaining to a colleague what peacocking is.
