Wall Street and Canal Rhyme

#WallStreetAndCanal

The fields of France are not filled with cheeses
for the milked cows who have made their way back home

And the old rectangle
and mingle, mangle
all along the banks of Wall Street and Canal

Oh the school was beepin and his bags were sleepin
as he layed there weepin for his lost cheesin’ pal

And the old rectangle
and mingle, mangle
all along the banks of Wall Street and Canal

Well the ladies wore much, stockings, corsets and such
and their hats were large enough for any gal,

And the old rectangle
and mingle, mangle
all along the banks of Wall Street and Canal

And the old rectangle
and mingle, mangle
all along the banks of Wall Street and Canal

n.b.: After searching the web, I found the song featured in the youtube clip seen on this page (Auld Triangle, performed by the Dropkick Murphy’s) and its tempo and rhyme matches the lyrics I jotted down. Subconscious at play? Have I heard this before and did not know it? I heard it once, maybe, sung by Brendan Behan (sp?) an Irish fellow who sang his brother’s songs. But it didn’t sound like this at all.
